		Welcome to the City of Caldwell Department of Building Safety. The department's goal is to provide a safe environment through comprehensive code application to ensure that new and existing buildings and structures are safe to use. The services we provide to achieve this goal are plan reviews of all buildings and structures prior to construction, plan reviews on existing buildings prior to any change in use, permit issuance and inspections to verify plan review requirements are met. In this site, you will find guidelines and check lists for plan submittal, commercial and residential building permit applications, codes adopted by the city, estimated turn around times, contacts for various departments, fee schedules to help you prepare your documents, and schedules and budgets. We are here to help you so that your construction projects may run as smooth as possible. NEW SUBMITTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RESIDENTIAL HEAT LOSS AND DUCT SIZING EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2009 THE CITY OF CALDWELL WILL REQUIRE SUBMITTALS OF HEAT LOSS CALCULATIONS (MANUAL J) AND DUCT SIZING (MANUAL D) AS REQUIRED BY THE INTERNATIONAL CODES. THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING SAFETY WILL ALLOW FOR A 90-DAY GRACE PERIOD ON SUBMITTALS TO ASSIST APPLICANTS WITH LEARNING THE PROCESS THAT WILL BE REQUIRED WITH EACH RESIDENTIAL APPLICATION. THE DEPARTMENT OF BUILDING SAFETY HAS TAKEN STEPS TO CONTACT LOCAL CONTRACTORS AND DESIGNERS OF THIS CHANGE, TO HELP MAKE THIS A SMOOTH TRANSITION.

The Department of Building Safety has provided the ability to print the appropriate permits for the type of work being performed.

Note: For Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical permits, the contractor may fax a copy of the permit along with a copy of the contractors license (if new to Caldwell, or when old one expires). We will issue a permit number to activate permit. The original permit along with payment must reach the Building Department within 7 working days. Fees not received within 7 working days shall be doubled.
