Who We Are

Who and What is the Caldwell Historic Preservation Commission?

We are a group of individuals who live in Caldwell and are devoted to improving the City’s character through preservation of its cultural features. To that desired end, we have established the following goals for the Stuenenberg Residential Historic District and, following that endeavor, for the other residential areas with historic integrity including the downtown area.

Preserve and enhance the environmental quality of the historic district. Encourage harmony and compatibility in the planning of new building and development in keeping with the district’s historic character. Direct the economic and social forces at work in the district so that they do not impair its historical, architectural, ecological or scenic attributes. Strengthen the City’s economic base by stimulation the concepts of conservation and reuse. Showcase Caldwell through the care and custody of its historic areas.

How can I get involved with the Historic Commission?

The Commission meets the 4th Monday of every month. We meet at the Caldwell Public Library, at 1010 Dearborn Street at 6 P.M. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend the meetings.

Did you know?

Besides the Stuenenberg neighborhood and a number of residences on the National Register of Historic Places, Caldwell also has another small district. It is roughly bounded by Railroad and Arthur Streets, 7th and 9th Avenues. It consists of 40 acres and 14 buildings. Stop by and take a look!
