This information outlines the requirements for obtaining the necessary building permits for commercial, industrial and multi-family developments. In order to ensure that your application is processed in a timely manner, your plans must be complete. For application and submittal requirements, see the various information sections provided below.
Once submitted, your plan package will require review and approval from various City Plans Examiners. Questions or inquiries as the processing of your permit progresses may be department specific and may require that you interact with any one or all of the department Plans Examiners listed below.
Important to remember: Prior to building permit issuance, plans for food related establishments (ie. restaurants, bars, markets, delis, snack bars, etc...) must also be reviewed and approved by the State of Idaho, South District Health Deparment. They may be contacted at (208) 455-5400.
Estimated Turn-Around Time:
- New non-residential and multi-family dwelling projects which have all of the required submittals are estimated to not exceed 6 to 8 weeks for approval.
- Additions to non-residential and multi-family projects have turn around times that are project specific, but typically should not take longer than the 6 to 8 weeks for turn around time specified for new construction.
- Tenant improvements which do not involve any changes to the outside of the building shell will generally take 2 to 4 weeks to process.
Plan review turn around times are subject to change without notice. Our turn around goals are listed below but they may be longer if the plans are incomplete, incorrect and require re-submittal and review and/or during periods of high volume plan submittal activity.
